“Crackerjack” pendant

“Crackerjack” premium pendant, metal and paper. Inspired by the original premium prizes for cereal and snack foods.

This piece is probably the least traditional of my sculptural representations of kinetic toys. The pendant is made completely from found objects, primarily scrap metal and collected debris from a jewelry studio. Originally intended to be a decoder necklace in the spirit of decoder rings made popular through 1930s’ sponsored radio programming, the work evolved to take the form of a conventional pendant. Although it is not what I set out to make, I am still very happy with the finished piece, which creates the same feeling of excitement had by many a youth when they found their prize in the bottom of a box of candied popcorn.
